There is no denying that there are considerable challenges facing the public sector. Budget reductions and talent shortages can be attributed to part of what is driving reactive innovation. However, citizens’ expectations, falling public trust and technological disruption continue to alter the environment where governments are struggling to offer quality public services.

Join Alex Metcalfe, Head of Public Sector at ACCA, for a session examining what innovation means and its prevalence in public sector finance. Drawing on ACCA’s report on this topic, Alex will discuss how finance professionals are well-placed to help drive innovation. Global and local case studies will highlight this innovation and the public sector finance professionals’ critical role.

Asma has a background in Resource & Capacity Management from working at IBM. She started her career at VIZIO Consulting in a similar role but is now transitioning towards leading all our marketing activities as well as learning about SAP project management. For the purposes of this webinar, Asma will be presenting the opening remarks with an introduction on VIZIO Consulting as well as closing the webinar.

Sajjad is the lead FP&A and BI SME at VIZIO Consulting for designing and implementing analytical and FP&A solutions covering a wide range of business and industry specific scenarios. He comes with over 20+ years of implementation experience of working with SAP platforms like SAP Analytics Cloud, SAP BPC Embedded, HANA Cloud and BW/4HANA.

Sarah Ban, CPA (Partner – Accounting Reporting Advisory – Government and Public Sector)

Sarah Ban is a Partner in the Assurance Government and Public Sector Accounting Advisory Practice in Toronto, where she specializes in advising Public Sector organizations on accounting, business finance and control issues related to changes to Public Sector Accounting Standards. Sarah has over 12 years of experience managing accounting projects to increase trust and accountability of financial reporting. Sarah’s experience includes working closely with the Province of Ontario, senior Canadian governments, crown corporations and other public sector organizations such as municipalities, school boards and not-for-profit organizations.

Recently, Sarah has been assisting governments of all levels on their adoption of PS 3280 Asset Retirement Obligations (“ARO”) with a focus on municipalities in their scoping, measurement and reporting. Sarah is currently involved in the design and delivery of internal and external training on the implementation and audit implications of this comprehensive new standard.

Stephane Bussiere, CPA (Senior Manager – Accounting Reporting Advisory – Government and Public Sector)

Stephane Bussiere is a Senior Manager in the Assurance Government and Public Sector Accounting Advisory Practice in Ottawa, where he specializes in advising Public Sector organizations on finance and accounting issues. Stephane has over 13 years of experience providing a wide variety of services including auditing and technical accounting application. Prior to joining Deloitte, Stephane was a financial audit project lead at the Office of the Auditor General of Canada (OAG). Stephane’s experience includes working closely with federal departments and crown corporations, the financial services sector, and provincial governments.
